Trans-Canada Highway 1 Illecillewaet Four-Laning (2015 – 2022)

CLIENT
Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure

Working on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, our project management team led a critical infrastructure project focused on enhancing the efficiency, safety, and security of the Trans-Canada Highway 1 (TCH) between Mt. Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park for all highway travellers, providing a reliable corridor for the east-west movement of goods throughout British Columbia.

The scope of work included 2 km of four lane expansion, to improve passing opportunities and increase vehicle storage during winter closures, acceleration and deceleration lanes to the brake check area, improved road geometrics to a 100 km/h design standard, and expanding the existing brake check area to accommodate 15 commercial vehicles, adding washrooms and lighting, and providing a turn-around to enable trucks and cars to choose an alternative route. Project management services were rendered from conceptual design to construction completion, coordinating environmental and archaeological studies, geotechnical investigations and First Nations consultation.

This project was also the first Trans-Canada Highway project to be delivered under the Community Benefits Agreement and included coordination with the new British Columbia Infrastructure Benefits team.
